It’s taken a while but I finally got round to joining Facebook and still don’t think I have quite got the hang of it. Though the social networking aspects of it are obvious it is all the peripheral add-ons that steal my time.

In the same week my Facebook friends introduced me to one video that was so beautiful it moved me to tears and to another whose very description was enough to tell me that it would move me to tears of an altogether different nature.

I hope you get as much joy out of Christian the Lion as I did and that you will take a moment to sign the Animal Saviours petition against the skinning alive of cats and dogs for the fur industry – even if you too can’t bring yourself to watch the video.

Today’s sprinkling of Sugar Sachet Wisdom is from that famous Spanish writer Maria von Ebner-Eschenbach:

Silly jokes aside, Maria von Ebner-Eschenbach was an Austrian novelist and playwright who once quipped “There are very few honest friends – the demand is not particularly great”. Bear that in mind when you ask your best friend if you bum looks big in this before the Christmas party.

In their own words Clas & Susanne, County & Western & Line Dancing stars of the Oasis Mango in Los Cristianos promise, “We have spent 3 long days to deliver the new baby and you who pre-order, will have it on mail ASAP.”

Startling as that may sound, they are referring to Susanne’s latest album. The three day production does indeed sound like a labour of love and can be ordered online or on location at the Oasis Mango.

Hundreds of years ago I remember getting a telling off for staring at the strange scar that wandered down the forehead of an old friend of my parents’. It looked like Bob had had an accident with his bubblegum which had left him with a silvery grey trail down the middle of his brow. It was, of course, a surgery scar from some old war wound. Being that the old bugger was always pulling my leg, I can’t be sure that he was telling the truth, but he used to say the metal plate that they’d installed to replace the bone in his head picked up radio signals.

I bet auld Bob would get a kick out of the thought that the gullible wee lassie that used to gawp open mouthed at his tall tales now considers him a fore-runner of modern entertainment technology.

Every morning Bampa and I drop the kids off at school and then go to the same cafe for our morning coffee and crossword. It’s not just that we are deeply boring creatures of habit (though we are) or that the cafe makes particularly good coffee (though it does), the cafe we use provides sugar sachets which each have a quotation by one or other historical Spanish figure.
