The Consejería de Sanidad of the Canary Islands Government is investigating two new cases of suspected H1N1 (otherwise know as swine flu) report Diario de Avisos. The article roughly translates to say that one person is a youngster who is being treated at Hospital Universitario de Canarias in Tenerife and was recently in Mexico and the other a 58 year old man who has recently returned from the US and is currently being treated in Gran Canaria.
Both previous suspected cases of this new strain of influenza A in the Canarias proved negative. Results for these latest cases will take a minimum of 48 hours.

the use of face masks and boosting your immune system by taking lots of vitamin-C is still an effective way of preventing the spread of the Swine Flu virus.
Thank you for that. I am getting quite spooked about it now actually especially with the death of young Chloe Buckley who seemed otherwise healthy. We have relatively few cases in Tenerife as yet but there is no doubt there will be many more. I am concentrating on getting my kids into the habit of washing their hands many more times a day, and being very attentive with coughs, sniffles and sore throats. The Vitamin C wont hurt – though I am not convinced either that or the masks will be of much preventative effect in the long run.
i always advice my kids to wear face masks when going into crowded areas. swine flu is really scary and i dont want my kids getting infected by it.
the H1N1 or Swine Flu virus did put our country in disarray for quite sometime, it is good to know that at least it did not cause so many deaths.
My brother got infected with H1N1 or Swine Flu in Mexico. He got a mild fever and luckily he did not die.
If you look at the pandemic of 1977, when H1N1 or Swine Flu re-emerged after a 20 year absence, there is no shift in age-related mortality pattern. The 1977 “pandemic” is, of course, not considered a true pandemic by experts today, for reasons that are not entierely consistent. It certainly was an antigenic shift and not an antigenic drift. As far as I have been able to follow the current events, the most significant factor seems to have been that most people, who were severely affected, were people with other medical conditions.
