I want to move Tenerife Tattle to a new host. At the very least, that would drop the ugly .blogspot suffix on the url and would open the door for other future changes. I am a bit nervous about the prospect though and TT is not the only blog up for re-homing.

A while ago I took a flyer on a new hosting service out of India and placed a handful of sites there. There is no question that the host is cheap – but as my wee granny used to say, (you must use a thin and quavery Scots accent to get the full flavour…), “A cheap thing’s always a dear thing.”

Well as it happens old Emily is right again. Instead of being able to concentrate on just building these sites, it seems half the time I try to work on them, the server is down. Quite demotivating and the sites have suffered because of it. It’s time to move – though I am not looking forward to the process.

Here’s hoping I don’t break anything…

The siren song of Tenerife tourism has long been that there is something here for everybody, whatever they may be interested in. That is not only true for those seeking entertainment on holiday but for those who live here and indulge in whatever hobby happens to take their fancy.

Whatever rings your bell or rattles your cage you will find a like-minded group blogging about it right here in Tenerife (and if not what’s stopping you from starting one?). Here are a few. Let me know if you have a Tenerife based hobby/special interest site that you’d like me to mention.

West Ham Supporters – Tenerife Hammers.

Most West Ham league and cup games are live on TV in Tenerife, and our intention is to meet up with like minded West Ham fans in the bars etc, to watch the Hammers. See link below ‘Where to watch the Hammers in Tenerife‘. Although not quite the same as being at a game live, we can still create a great atmosphere, share old stories, and share a few beers in the process.

Beading in Tenerife – Tenerife Silver Surfer

beading in TenerifeThis website is the work of a newcomer to the world of beading and also a newcomer to the world of blogging. Although she had toyed with the blog before it never came to anything until she found something to blog about – her love of beading. All in all, this site is a journey as this blogging grandmother (and as it happens, my mother – Go Gaga!) discovers new layers of her craft and also discovers her blogging voice.

Tenerife Sky Watchers

Yes, the truth is out there and the team at Tenerife Sky Watchers are determined to bring it to you. This website is the home of UFO research in Tenerife and is the place both to report strange sightings in the sky over Tenerife or the other Canary Islands or to find out about UFO’s here and elsewhere.

The internet is a wonderful place and what makes it so is the interlinking nature of related sites so that when researching a topic (like your next holiday in Tenerife) you are able to follow an organic path through a wealth of information about any subject under the sun.

With that in mind I have to recommend the Isle of Tenerife as a great site for anyone looking for info on the island particularly related to specific towns or pueblos. There is also an Isle of Tenerife blog which is worth checking out for its running commentary on Tenerife events and news.

Many Happy Returns to Secret Tenerife, Pamela Heywood’s excellent blog about the inner workings of our island in the sun. For five years Secret Tenerife has been reporting and commenting on what’s on, what’s in, what’s wrong, what’s not to be missed and what has to be given a very wide berth in Tenerife.

Pamela’s witty commentary on life in Tenerife truly is a gateway to the island and a must-read for anyone who wants to see under the island’s touristy lid to the traditions and unique culture below.

Here’s to five more!

Whether you see the point of battering a wee ball around with a big stick or not you can’t have missed the importance of the game of golf to the island. There are certainly more quality golf courses in Tenerife than you can shake a stick at and even a pint sized one at Las Galletas for those who’d like to squeeze a round of golf into their lunch hour.

Rattling about in my head is the story that golf was once a sport for ‘Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden’ hence the name GOLF. Somehow I doubt that as there were once so many things that were open only to the hairier half of the human race that everything from voting booths to public bars could have been called GOLF.

Anyway, only the very odd or criminally insane would dispute that the Auld Game originated in Scotland so who better to discuss the finer points of golfing in Tenerife and Scottish golf than Sir Old Golfer, a golf writer who divides his time between his home here in Golf Del Sur and his home on the golf course bonny Ayrshire?

To make up for Giacomo Leopardi’s dark outlook on life, here is a link to someone who obviously finds a lot of beauty in her life here in Tenerife. In Tenerife Journal, ‘Canarybird’, recounts her visits rounds the island and illustrates the blog with her own striking photographs.

Canarybird’s Nest, is another blog by the same writer. This time the focus is on the past – the journey that brought her from Canada to Spain in the first place.

Because my phone number is given on eTenerife.com on the off-chance that some mad person wants to call me to arrange some internet advertising I get quite a lot of phone calls from people thinking they are calling a particular hotel, restaurant or travel shop.

For some reason Directory Enquiries in the UK seem to give out my number for any query related to Tenerife. As an example I recently had a conversation with Dave who thought he’d got through to a certain restaurant.

Unfortunately Dave happened to call at a bad time for me – I always enjoy these phone calls and am happy to help if I can but at kid’s bedtime …uh… what? With one ear out for bathtime mischief and the other for the kids killing each other I am not the best one to take a message. Dave asked me to help him out with an alternative restaurant recommendation for Christmas Day and I scribbled down the email address he gave me whilst aware of a rising level of squabbling coming from down the hall.

Now I’ve got a couple of alternatives for Dave, I can’t read the damn email address. So sincere apologies to Dave in the UK. I would have recommended the Moroccan Paris Marrakech restaurant for a fab night out. :(

Just this morning I had a call from a Russian travel agent. Apparently she has a group due over to Tenerife soon and she needs to find a rock climbing instructor for them. Again she found me because of the phone number on the footer of the rock climbing in Tenerife page. I seem to get quite a few enquiries via that page and have had my eye out for supplemental informative links for a long time. For ages the best I could do was the UK Climbing forum and a couple of Spanish language sites (which given that most visitors to eTenerife are from the UK is helpful but not ideal) but lo and behold as I was fiddling about in Google while talking to the Russian woman, I came up with some new sources.

For absolutely anything to do with outdoor activity and adventure check out Tenerife Outdoor and for those looking specifically for rock climbing in Tenerife visit Roxtar.
